Expert recommendation for red stretch marks is the pulsed dye laser which can remove the red pigment on NEW stretch marks. While the marks are red there is a 60% chance of the marks going away and not turning white. The cost is $400 per session depending on the size of the area treated. Most patients need 3-5 treatments to see results. For white stretch marks the excimer laser which stimulates pigmentation so the marks look flesh colored is recommended. The best you can hope for is a 50% improvement and it only works on 30% of patients. Five to ten sessions might be needed at a cost of $300 to $600 each. Patients must be realistic and know that the color can be improved but not the texture. My research shows however that some doctors will not do laser at all. They suggest combining light laser treatments with Retin-A, glycolic acid, and topical Vitamin C. This is done to help thicken the skin by stimulating new collagen formation. It can take 4-6 weeks to even see a subtle difference and sometimes, none at all.
